Gita Acharan |English

The Fourteenth Chapter of the Bhagavad Gita is called ๐™‚๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™– ๐™๐™ง๐™–๐™ฎ๐™– ๐™‘๐™ž๐™—๐™๐™–๐™œ ๐™”๐™ค๐™œ๐™– (Union through transcending three ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ -modes of nature) where ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ and ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–-๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ were explained. Krishna concludes the chapter by giving a solution to transcend them and says, "Those who serve ME with unswerving (๐™–-๐™ซ๐™ฎ๐™–๐™—๐™๐™ž-๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ) devotion rise above the three ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ and come to the level of the Brahman (๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–-๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™š๐™ฉ๐™) (14.26). For, I am the basis of the Infinite, the Immortal, the Indestructible; and of eternal Dharma , formless Brahman and absolute bliss" (14.27).

Krishna uses the word ๐™ซ๐™ฎ๐™–๐™—๐™๐™ž-๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ , which means multiple desires.

' ๐˜ผ-๐™ซ๐™ฎ๐™–๐™—๐™๐™ž-๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ devotion' is sans-multiple or single pointed devotion. In a similar context, Krishna used ๐™–-๐™ซ๐™š๐™จ๐™ฎ๐™– (12.2) to indicate the same. Essentially, it is transcending from multiple minds to single pointed devotion to HIM which will make us ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–-๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ .

Firstly, the ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–-๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ drops the sense of doership by realising that there is no ๐™ ๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™๐™– (doer) for any ๐™ ๐™–๐™ง๐™ข๐™– (action) and all ๐™ ๐™–๐™ง๐™ข๐™–๐™จ are the result of interaction between the various ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ . Secondly, He realises that even others are not responsible for any ๐™ ๐™–๐™ง๐™ข๐™–๐™จ which were perceived to be done by them. As a result, he is not affected by respect or insult as both are the interplay of ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ which culminates in the dropping of enmity and friendship.

Finally, he realises that ๐™จ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ซ๐™– , ๐™ง๐™–๐™Ÿ๐™ค and ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ข๐™ค ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ are capable of creating pleasant and unpleasant situations. Hence, he is no longer influenced by such situations. Similarly, he is not affected by the words of praise and criticism as he understands that ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ are behind them. This state of ๐™œ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–-๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ is a state of joy that should be the aim of life for all of us.
